"Training during downturn maintains competitive edge" Trevor Annon, Managing Director

Staff Training Awards December 2009

Mount Charles, Northern Ireland’s leading local catering company, has marked the success of staff with its inaugural awards ceremony for employees who have achieved new qualifications during the year.

Staff across a range of levels have secured an impressive variety of awards including Assessor qualifications that will allow Mount Charles  employees to be more proactive in providing  in-house training. The initiative is part of a strategic decision to focus increased resources on staff development during the economic downturn.

Congratulating the recipients on their achievements Mount Charles Managing Director, Trevor Annon, said:

“Mount Charles has a proud record of offering training opportunities to our team regardless of age, level or existing qualifications. Like many firms we have sharpened our focus on staff development during the economic downturn to maintain a competitive edge in terms of quality standards and customer satisfaction. In financial terms we have not only increased our own investment in training, but have worked in partnership with Government initiatives to access additional funding to help deliver even more training opportunities.

“The multi-site nature of our business means that teams often have little contact with each other. It is our intention that this presentation will not be a one-off, but rather the start of an annual Mount Charles tradition, allowing our staff to take pride in their collective ambition and dedication - hopefully inspiring them to even greater heights.”

The company presented 19 awards to staff including NVQ level 2 & 3 across a range of hospitality disciplines as well as a new A1 Assessor award allowing senior on-site staff to develop their training and assessor capabilities. These qualifications reflect the strengthening relationships with the Southern Regional College and Protocol Skills which delivers programmes  both on and off-site throughout the Mount Charles Group.

Mount Charles Human Resources Manager Emma Gibson added:

“As a locally-owned company Mount Charles has always placed a strong emphasis on staff training and development, and we offer a wide range of opportunities with a variety of training organisations we believe, however, that a presentation of awards is fitting, as it is our way of saying to the team that Mount Charles recognises and values all their efforts.”
